It's just not a desgin that can take punishmet. Yes, I know that it's "safe" in normal use, but I don't want to be in the V-22 that can't tilt its rotors up for landing because a bullet jammed the mechanisim, or the V-22 that had it's wing sawn off, or the V-22 that tears it's own innards apart because a driveshaft was hit, etc. Turns out putting big heavy, extremely complex engines on the ends of thin wings makes for an aircraft that doesn't take AA fire very nicley. The devs have other things to worry about than adding fixed wing flight models, things I'm more interested in.Ħ) It's very fragile and unmanueverable. Aeroplanes and helicopters do not fly the same way. If you have read this entire essay, than good job and thanks.Ģ) It has a very long and tricky landing approach, like all VTOLs, which given the size of the maps means you'll never reach top speed and you'd be better off in hover mode the entire time, defeating the whole point of using it in the first place.ģ) It surely must to be too fast for the game engine to handle, can't you see how short the render distance is currently? Even looking down the scope at far away units can cause lag (for me at least).Ĥ) It would require a special control scheme to be made just for it. In conclusion, the V-22 should not be added anywhere near now or the near future unless its for historical (offline) missions. So the Devs should at least wait at least untill the game has ganed more popularity, better maps, and something to counter it. If not, there may be an F-14 In Heliborne someday. If the Devs dont refuse to make any aircraft after the V-22, it would quite possibly unbalance the game in favor of the US. An AV-8 or Harrier Mk.somehting would possibly follow. Once the V-22 is added, a decent case could be made for the Soviet Yak-38 VTOL fighter jet. If they were not able to rotate, than that would take away a lot of the fun from the aircraft. Now players would be able to drop off MANPADS and RPGs quicker and sneeker if the engines were able to rotate. The introduction of the Osprey would change a lot. Currently, the fastest helicopter in the game is a version of the KA-52 attack helicopter. The third issue is that it can be a very slippery sloap. Also, it would probably change the game to the point that it would cause the players to get frusterated at that V-22 that keeps dropping off manpads and escapeing before it could be shot down. The Chyanne is a diffrent case, because it was designed as a helicopter before an airplane. This means that, even though the V-22 can fly like a helicopter, it is realisticly, a airplane that has engines that turn up so it can fly like a helicopter. The second issue the Osprey has is simply that it is not a helicopter, but a tilt rotor aircraft.

Hopefully we will get some larger maps soon, but at the games current state, the V-22 would not be able to effectivly fly at anything other than full rotor up tilt. There is a major problem with this oppinion wich is first of all, the size of the maps. It also has somewhat decent armament and could possibly fill the role of a transport. On one hand, the V-22 is a tilt rotor craft, mening that it han hover like a helicopter. Publishers use these marks when books are returned to them.If you have been following this game for a while, youwill probably have seen part of this debate.
